New Porsche Book: Seinfeld 356 crashes Karl’s Party

by John on August 6, 2012

Bentley Publishers says that Seinfeld’s Porsche 356 2/040, the car that inspired Karl Ludvigsen’s forthcoming book Porsche – Origin of the Species, will be on display at the book launch event on Saturday, August 18 in Danvers, Massachusetts.

Jerry’s ex-Otto Mathé Gmünd coupe, one of the oldest original-condition Porsches on the road today, is said (in the press release) to be the car from which all Porsche 356s and, by extension, 911s trace their lineage. I don’t know how true that is, as there is are earlier Ferdinand creations in the Porsche Museum: the Volkswagen Beetle for example. Nevertheless, this car is a peach.

Author Karl Ludvigsen will give the keynote speech at the Porsche 356 East Coast Holiday in the presence of this historic Porsche. His talk will be drawn from Porsche – Origin of the Species, which will debut at the event.

The book is $120 in the USA. Amazon has it on pre-order for £70 in the UK – click here to see it. Currently undecided on a purchase – still saving for Jeff Zwart’s Rennsport book!

Thanks for this nice mention of the event and the new book. We had a great launch amongst the 356 Register folks.

True, I don’t claim that Jerry’s car specifically is the acorn from which has grown the Porsche oak, The book’s aim rather is to disclose and define all the influences that brought the final 356 to life — that car whose DNA has influenced all subsequent Porsches.

Thanks again!
